Abstract

In this study, we tested a method for identifying sea breezes on the island of Mallorca. Our approach is based on the analysis of wind data collected from stations located in both terrestrial and marine environments, which correspond to two regional units: the southern bay of Palma and the northern bay of Alcudia. Our primary source of data was the terrestrial tide gauges from the REDMAR network (managed by Puertos del Estado). We compared the results of our analysis with data from the Dragonera buoy of the REDEX network, situated outside the influence of sea breezes. Additionally, we used data from the time series of SIMAR points, located on the sea surface. These three data sources were valuable in examining and providing a summary of the wind patterns associated with sea breezes, which are a highly recurrent atmospheric phenomenon on the island.
