Evolution of the contributions of ruralist geographers from Spain: introduction to special issue
Main Article Content
Abstract
This brief article considers the evolution of the main research topics of the Spanish Agrarian and Rural Geography, throughout its trajectory in the last 60 years, keeping in mind the meetings of the Group of Agrarian/Rural Geography since its creation. The common aspect along this path has been to deal with the social problems and commitments of the geographic discipline within the rural territories. Inequality and the need for reform in the structure of land ownership, agricultural landscapes, irrigation problematics, incidence of the Common Agricultural Policy in rural territories and communities, agricultural multifunctionality, rural development and tourism, among other, have been classic topics by ruralist geographers in our country. The work culminates with the presentation of novel relative thematics, related to the last two meetings (social innovation in rural development, vulnerability and rural resilience, rural emptying, patrimonialization of the landscape, new rural actors, among others), and the presentation of some relevant papers published in this number.
