 History and Relevance

The scientific study of racket sports has undergone remarkable development in recent decades, becoming a specific area of research within the sports sciences. Since the 1990s, the increasing attention to these sports has led to international conferences, pioneering studies, and a growing body of academic publications. A key milestone in this trajectory was the celebration of the World Congresses on Science and Racket Sports in 1993, which marked the beginning of a productive era of reflection and scientific output.

Research such as that by Sharp (1998), which analyzed rally duration and work-rest ratios in squash using technological tools, signaled the beginning of a new methodological era. As data processing capabilities increased, racket sports research expanded exponentially, incorporating large volumes of data and increasingly complex approaches.

In this context, International Journal of Racket Sports Science was launched in 2019 to address the need for a specialized platform that would structure existing knowledge and promote new lines of research. Since its inception, the journal has aimed to provide a space for collaboration and exchange among experts in the sports, academic, and scientific fields. Its purpose is to enhance the development of theoretical and methodological tools that allow the study of racket sports to be projected into the future, fostering synergies among researchers and strengthening the international scientific community dedicated to this field.
