Abstract

This study analyses the municipal composition of The Provincial Government of Granada during democratic period (1979-2017). By this purpose has been elaborated a deputies database which include municipalities for they were elected. The data has been represented spatially using a Geographical Information System (GIS). The results shows less than half of municipalities have any provincial deputy. The distribution of deputies is very unequal, since the highest concentration occurs in municipalities head of the Judicial District or with large population, while municipalities without a deputy have less than 5.000 inhabitants. This concentration is attributable to the decisions of the major political parties in the election process. In short, the system of election of deputies represents the large municipalities to the detriment of the small ones by the Judicial Districts as well as for demographic and partisan reasons.
