Abstract
The escalation in the level of conflict in the Gulf of Guinea poses a risk to global security. The purpose of this article is to analyze the contextual variables that influence the outbreak of a violent high intensity conflict in the area. The spillover effects of a regional crisis would seriously affect stability in West Africa.
