Abstract

During the Spanish Transition, there was an important discussion about how the León region would fit into the new autonomous map of Spain. Ultimately, it was decided to integrate León with Castile, creating the autonomous community of “Castilla y León.” This decision sparked numerous protests and demonstrations, and the debate about León’s autonomy remains active even four decades later. This present investigation focuses on how the provinces of León, Zamora, and Salamanca came to be part of their current autonomous community, as well as the influence of pro-León movements during the Transition.
