ARCHAEOLOGY AND PSEUDOARCHAEOLOGY: DIFFERENT BUT MIXED
Main Article Content
Abstract
Thispaperdealswithpseudoarchaeologyinrelationtoarchaeology, tryingtoestablish criteria for the delimitation between the two. It also addresses the success of pseu- doarchaeology and the consequences that can be caused by the uncritical credulity it generates, especially in relation to conspiracy theories. For this purpose, not only the updated bibliography on the subject has been reviewed, but also two demoscopic studies, an opinion poll and a netnographic analysis in social networks, particularly on Facebook, in groups dedicated to esotericism and mysteries of the past have been conducted. The main conclusion is that pseudoarchaeology is not an innocent pastime, but a threat to the social function of archaeological heritage, whose narrative is given by archaeological research.
