Abstract
Bailén is synonymous with pottery land. This enclave of Alta Andalucía has been an important producer of common ceramics on the peninsula since ancient times. Despite the arrival of modernity in the mid-twentieth century and the crisis that this entailed for all traditional artisan centers in Spain, Bailén continues to be an important pottery center and there are signs that it will continue to do so. This paper intends to explore what it was that guaranteed the subsistence of pottery production in this town from the 60’s. The implementation of social technological analysis allows us to appreciate how the establishment of new ways of life and thought caused substantial changes in the production of pottery elements. For this, the anthropological concept of Châine Operatoire is used as a methodological tool.
