Abstract

This study approaches ways of mythification of the tango interpreter Carlos Gardel, in a frame of a major research frame. The social phenomenon is  observed in the text of the novel “aires  de tango”  (1973) of Manuel Mejia Vallejo (1923-1998), a Colombian author. The Colombian writer textualizes the effect of identification with tango lyrics that a young marginal man experiments at the urban scene of Medellín– through the lyrics– with Gardel himself. In the putting on dialogue of Mejia with antioquian  authors and critics of the more recent production, emerges the proof of a constant of the representations of the Colombian society with a cultural formation in full transformation, as it oc- curred with the suburb “paisa” in the years next to the airplane accident where the argentinean  singer died, and his consequent turned in myth, captivated by latin american literature.
