Abstract

This article is part of a broader political scenario that contains the changes introduced in Italy through the struggle against organized crime and a major institutional commitment to teach and improve legality. The author has tried to outline the activities and studies that encompass a whole range of efforts from various institutional performances and from various disciplines (law, sociology, psychiatry, education, and anthropology). The concept of legality is present, as a separate category, in the wide array of experiences of human societies but it is complex and multidimensional, interwoven with almost all our different ways of life. Thanks to the vast knowledge of human beings, we can have a more adequate understanding of the obstacles impeding the implementation of the law, on the level of the masses; at the same time we need to consider the best models for our legality, our societies, our states, our nations. In this article, in order to illustrate the Italian situation, theoretical and historical considerations together with the data of many empirical studies are presented, such as those conducted by Eurostat, Istat, Iard, and Save the Children.
