Abstract
This article reviews the research situation in ancient mining areas of the Iberian Peninsula, within the context of archaeomining studies. From a methodological point of view we will address the pertinence of Landscape Archaeology for understanding the morphological and technical aspects of mining within the framework of Roman control and exploitation strategy. A critical analysis is done of recent approaches to mining within studies of Roman economy, which attempt to approach it as if it were an industrial activity and as a economic sector. Finally, some promising research lines are reviewed.
