Abstract
Conditioned by its geological nature, the mountainous areas of the so-called “Basque arc” are rich in testimonies of veins and breeding grounds of minerals that have been exploited for millennia. As they have gone forward research on the Roman past of this territory, the study of mining has been gaining prominence to become a fundamental reference. Thanks to the discovery of dozens of mines of iron, copper, silver and gold it has been possible to deepen on the knowledge of the territory planning in the context of the Empire. This article is a review of available mining records, its chronological setting and its relationship to the imperial administration.
