“MORE THAN A WOMAN”: RIFLESSIONI SULLA VISIBILITÀ DELLE DONNE NELLE NECROPOLI SARDE DEL I MILLENNIO A.C.

Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the visibility of women in Iron Age Sardinia and on the established stereotypes that have characterised the interpretation of women’s tombs. Research on the funerary landscape of human communities in Sardinia has received considerable impetus in the last two decades, thanks to the multiplication of archaeological excavations in the necropolises of the most important Phoenician and Punic centres and in the few extraordinary funerary contexts of nuragic origin. The advancement of knowledge is allowing the exploration of new fields of study, which favour the initiation of a social analysis of funerary contexts, also in terms of gender.
