THE AQUEDUCT OF LOS MILLARES: DESCRIPTION AND NEW INVESTIGATIONS
Main Article Content
Abstract
In 1892/93 Luis Siret described a spring, a water conduction to and a large water reservoir in the Los Millares fortification. The current results of the geological, hydrogeological and archaeological studies of the water supply of Los Millares are presented. Therefore all previous findings on the water supply were newly recorded and are now presented in a synopsis. 230Th/U investigations of sinter deposits on wall foundations of this water conduction provided archaeometric evidence that within the settlement in the early and the middle Copper Age existed a water conduit, as described by Luis Siret. The location of the source drawn by Siret could not be verified. But at another place nearby sinter deposits of a source were sampled which originated still during the existence or shortly after the fortification was abandoned.
