Main Article Content
Abstract
The conservation and dissemination of Intangible Cultural Heritage referred to historical techniques of ceramic manufacturing is a concern of our institution, parallel to the custody and conservation of material culture. In the case of Valencia, the knowledge associated with the techniques of manufacturing the medieval lustreware, the metallic sheen glazed pottery, according to the procedures used in the Valencian workshops from medieval times to the present, represent a precious cultural background. In recent years, the last workshop that still baked the luster by woodfiring, has closed.
The information obtained from the last heirs of this tradition provides elements of singular cultural value as well as data of great importance for the archaeological and archeometrical interpretation. For this reason, the Museum has been developing a continuous action of documentation of the practice of this old technique, as well as its promotion and dissemination through documentaries and experimental workshops to favor its survival in the present.
