Abstract

The aim of this survey focuses on the main outlines about remote sensing applications in Archaeology. The basis of remote sensing and digital image processing are presented as wellas a review about the main applications developed up to now. It concludes setting up the limitations, possibilitíes and strategies using the different remote sensing techniques in Archaeology. The more traditional remote sensing techniques such as aeríal photography are more commonly used in Archaeology while the application of othernewer ones such as multiespectral remote sensing, satellite remote sensing and digital image processing are being developed since the late 70's and mainly during the 80's. The different remote sensing techniques, allow obtaining images applicable to archaeological research from micro and semi-micro scale to regional scale.
