Abstract

In recent decades, archaeological research in our country has changed significantly, usually in response to theoretical and practical approaches that emerged out of our area. In a world in which the simulation and virtuality, have become essential principles of our way of life, it’s not surprising that research acknowledge these same influences. Thus, for the study, documentation, reconstruction and analysis of the impact of past communities on the territory, Geographic Information Systems have come to become an essential tool. In this paper, we make a summary review on the current state in the application of GIS in Archaeology within our country. We do not pretend to present new contributions or relevant new proposals and understand the expiry of what we are presenting. However, this description of the current reality is a good example of the way in which scientific and technological innovation process in our country takes place. An example such as Spanish, traditionally anchored within their own borders, can be extremely instructive in this regard. To this end, we decided to analyze the impact of Spanish GIS applications in the appropriate series, and also to evaluate in our country the teaching situation of these methodologies.
