About the Journal

The Journal Miscelánea de Estudios Árabes y Hebraicos. Sección Árabe-Islam (MEAH-AI) is a pioneering and leading publication in the field of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Spain. Interdisciplinary in nature, it covers topics related to Arabic and Islamic culture, history, literature and philosophy, from the Middle Ages to the present day. The journal provides an open and rigorous academic space for the dissemination and analysis of research exploring both the Classical period (al-Andalus and the East) and the Modern and Contemporary periods.

The Journal Miscelánea de Estudios Árabes y Hebraicos. Sección Árabe-Islam (MEAH-AI) has a rich history. It originated as the former Miscelánea de Estudios Árabes y Hebraicos. Fascículo 1º (MEAH. Fascículo 1º), a publication specialising in Arabic studies, which was published from 1958 (volume VII) to 1993-1994 (volumes XLII-XLIII). This publication was complemented by Fascículo 2º, which was dedicated to Hebrew studies.

Both sections derive  from the first version of the journal, also entitled Miscelánea de Estudios Árabes y Hebraicos (MEAH), which  was first published  in 1952 (volume I) as a supplement to the Boletín de la Universidad de Granada. In this first stage, the journal covered both Arabic and Hebrew studies in a single volume. This initial format was maintained until 1957 (volume VI), when the journal was divided to better address each  discipline separately.

The latest issue of our journal features contributions from leading national and international experts. This issue presents a special section dedicated to the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language, comprising six articles. This volume also brings together seven articles addressing a range of topics of great academic interest. These include studies on Arabic poetry, feminist activism in Egypt and Sufism in the eighteenth century. It also explores the Mexican mahjar and linguistic ideology as applied to the Arabic language. We trust that this issue will contribute to dialogue and research in these fields.
