The debate on the colonial question in relation to the unfinished processes of decolonization in Western Sahara is highly topical. In order to interpret them it is necessary to resort to the strategies followed by France and Spain to subdue the tribal system and the Saharan morabitic networks. From the study of tribal segmentationist theories to the mystique of the desert. The French confidential reports offer important news to interpret the geomistics used in the conquest and submission of the Sahara. All as part of the great Saharan geostrategic game. Figures such as Charles de Foucauld, Ernest Psichari or Enrique D'Almonte are fundamental for the correct interpretation of the politics of domination.
Keywords: Sahara, segmentarity, mysticism, meharism, brotherhoods, geostrategy.
