Una oportunidad perdida: las contribuciones sobre la salud y la enfermedad de las primeras sociólogas

Resumen

Habitualmente, las primeras contribuciones de la sociología de la salud y la enfermedad se sitúan alrededor de 1970, lo que supone pasar por alto importantes contribuciones de las primeras pensadoras sociales de finales del xix y primer tercio del siglo xx. Este trabajo presenta algunas de las aportaciones realizadas por esas mujeres olvidadas por el canon sociológico. El olvido de sus contribuciones ha ocasionado la pérdida de un valioso conocimiento al ignorar temas y metodologías que fueron introducidos más tarde. Este trabajo interpela a las razones de esta omisión, centrándose en por qué el pensamiento sobre el progreso humano no estuvo relacionado con la salud de las personas, y sobre las consecuencias de esta laguna para el cuerpo del conocimiento de la sociología.
